Artist Irene McCollam realized her love of ceramics while attending a side course on the subject while at SCAD earning her B.F.A. in photography. Originally from Columbia, S.C., McCollam now lives and creates in Savannah, Ga. The organic nature of her work is reflected in her appreciation of Asian folk art. Furthermore, the artist finds that the weathered hues of Savannah inspire her to create small works that could easily be mistaken for treasures forgotten over time among the historical city.
